Professor Tom Calma AO

Professor Tom Calma AO is an Aboriginal Elder from the Kungarakan tribal group and a member of the Iwaidja tribal group whose traditional lands are southwest of Darwin and on the NT’s Cobourg Peninsula, respectively.

Professor Calma is one of Australia’s most respected human rights and social justice campaigners, and his courage and determination is inspirational to many. Professor Calma has spent more than four decades championing First Nations rights and equity in health, justice, education, housing and employment at local, community, state and international levels. His leadership continues to have an enduring impact.

Professor Calma co-led the co-design of a Voice to Parliament initiative, and his call for Australia to address the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples was the catalyst for the Close the Gap Campaign. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2012 and named Australian Senior Australian of the Year in 2023.

Paul Coe | NSW

CEO, Birribee Housing, (a subsidiary of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council), Sydney. Paul is leading child protection expert on the needs of Aboriginal children. In recent years, he has pivoted to focus on Aboriginal housing outcomes. Paul is now delivering self-determination for Aboriginal people through Aboriginal led control of housing outcomes.

David Pearson | SA

CEO, Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (AAEH). David recognises that ending homelessness is possible and that homelessness is not normal or something we should accept. A national leader, he has worked towards this goal in a range of roles in the community government university and philanthropic sectors.

Shaya Nettle | SA

Shaya is the Senior Manager of the Toward Home Alliance in Adelaide CBD, a dynamic collaboration of seven specialist homelessness services and government partners, and over 100 staff. She aspires for humane and inclusive service systems and has over two decades experience in not-for-profit and volunteer roles in local, national and international contexts.

Mary Doctor | QLD

A national leader and advocate in First Nations housing, Mary is the Deputy Chairperson of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association, the Chairperson of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Queensland, and the current General Manager of Umpi Korumba, Brisbane – a NRSCH registered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community housing organisation.

Lisa Briggs | VIC

Lisa Briggs has over 40 years’ experience in public policy where she has continually strived to make an impact to the Community at a national, state, regional and local level. Lisa has been executive in a number of peak bodies and has recently been appointed to the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria and was the previous Co-Chair of the Closing the Gap Partnership Forum in Victoria.

Daniel Morrison-Bird | WA

Daniel is CEO of Wungening Aboriginal Corporation which delivers frontline drug and alcohol support, family violence, child protection and homelessness services across Perth. He is committed to collaborative, inclusive relationships where the Aboriginal community is encouraged to engage, establish their voice, work together to develop suitable solutions and be part of the bigger picture.

Mick Gooda | QLD

Mick has been an active advocate for the recognition of the rights of First Nations peoples in Australia. He has served as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission, a Co-Commissioner, Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the NT and as the First Nation Housing Advisor for the Queensland Government.

Vonda Malone | QLD

A former CEO of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) and first female Mayor of the Torres Shire Council, Vonda has extensive professional experience in leadership and service delivery, working to improve outcomes for the regional Queensland and encouraging people in regional and remote communities to pursue leadership opportunities.

Kieran Wong | WA

Co-Founder + Partner, The Fulcrum Agency, Perth & Sydney. Kieran is an award-winning architect across commercial, public, urban design, interiors, education and residential categories. His is an advocate that has delivered positives outcomes for communities and is also published on topics covering urban renewal and densification, Indigenous housing and new models of practice and procurement.

Stacey Broadbent | NSW

CEO, Aboriginal Community Housing Limited (ACHL), Sydney. Stacey has been actively involved within the social and affordable housing sector for over 20 years, with a passionate focus on Aboriginal housing, growth and financial sustainability. Stacey has led a number of significant programs and projects that work towards the benefit of all First Nations people.

Julie Saunders | QLD

Appointed by the Queensland Minister for Housing as the Chair for the Housing Supply Expert Panel, Julie is an urban planner with over 25 years of experience. Her passion for serving the community is demonstrated by the breadth of her experience across government, and the not-for-profit and private sectors in diverse roles in statutory and strategic planning and the development pipeline.

Ivan Simon | NSW

A national leader in housing and foundation Chairman of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA), Ivan has been a driving force in ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a voice in housing policy. Ivan’s many contributions include his role in the establishment NSW Aboriginal Housing Office in 1998.

Brendan Dumbrell | QLD

A former Royal Australian Navy veteran, Brendan is the Managing Director of Indigenous- and Veteran-owned JY Australia. With a long history of supporting Defence and the Defence industry, JY offers professional services in support and quality management as well as a range of Indigenous programs and resources. Brendan is a passionate advocate for more housing for First Nations veterans.
